A 38-year-old Bend man was arrested Friday evening after police identified him as a suspect in a burglary and theft investigation involving several homes in southeast Bend.

The Bend Police Department said officers received a report at about 8:33 a.m. Aug. 14 from a homeowner in the 20800 block of SE Denver Drive who reported that her home had been burglarized and items had been stolen.

Officers canvassing the neighborhood located surveillance video showing the suspect attempting to enter four other homes in the area.

With assistance from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified the suspect as Michael Scott Delay, 38, of Bend. Police said officers had contacted Delay the previous day, Aug. 13, while he was walking in the roadway less than two miles from the location of the Aug. 14 burglary.

At approximately 7:37 p.m. Friday, Redmond police located Delay near NE Blackfoot Court and took him into custody.

Delay was arrested on suspicion of four counts of first-degree burglary and one count of first-degree theft. He was transported to the Deschutes County Jail.

The Bend Police Department thanked the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Redmond Police Department for their assistance with the investigation.
