TIGARD, Ore. — Tigard police arrested two men in separate felony assault investigations over the weekend after violent incidents left two victims injured and prompted the execution of search warrants at two different locations.
The first assault was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, in the 11600 block of Southwest Gallo Avenue. According to investigators, Arik Kiehlbauch allegedly assaulted a person known to him, causing significant injuries. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment and has not been publicly identified.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim had reportedly been assaulted by Kiehlbauch on a previous occasion within the past several weeks.
On Sunday, June 21, officers located Kiehlbauch at the residence but said he refused to come to the door. A judge approved a search warrant allowing officers to enter the home, and the Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team was called in due to the seriousness of the alleged offenses.
Police announced their presence and repeatedly ordered Kiehlbauch to surrender. He eventually exited the home without incident and was taken into custody.
Kiehlbauch was booked into jail on two counts of second-degree assault, both Measure 11 offenses under Oregon law, and one count of fourth-degree assault.
In a separate and unrelated incident, Tigard officers responded at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a disturbance in the 11700 block of Southwest 72nd Avenue.
Investigators say Mahmoud Bilal allegedly assaulted another man with a machete or sword, causing cuts to the victim. Despite the weapon involved, the victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Following the incident, a judge authorized a search warrant for Bilal’s apartment, where officers recovered the suspected weapon.
Police also discovered evidence suggesting Bilal may have threatened another individual with the same weapon the day before the assault. Investigators said additional criminal charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
Bilal was arrested and is currently facing charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
Tigard Police emphasized that while the investigations are unrelated, both cases required significant police resources and remain under active investigation.
