PORTLAND, Ore. — A Beaverton man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl and illegally possessing a firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
Roberto Ochoa-Vergara, 29, received a sentence of 120 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.
According to court records, Ochoa-Vergara and a co-conspirator sold 128 grams of fentanyl from the trunk of his vehicle on Feb. 7, 2025. Less than a month later, on March 5, 2025, Ochoa-Vergara sold nearly 400 grams of fentanyl and a .40-caliber FNH FNS-40C pistol.
Two days later, on March 7, 2025, a Hillsboro police officer found Ochoa-Vergara unconscious in the passenger seat of a vehicle that was partially blocking a roadway. A search of Ochoa-Vergara and the vehicle uncovered more than $10,000 in cash, over 300 grams of fentanyl powder, and smaller quantities of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine.
Investigators later executed a search warrant at Ochoa-Vergara’s residence, where they recovered an additional pistol and more than one kilogram of fentanyl powder.
A federal grand jury in Portland first indicted Ochoa-Vergara on March 18, 2025, charging him with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine, as well as being a felon in possession of a firearm. A second indictment returned on Aug. 12, 2025, charged Ochoa-Vergara and several co-conspirators with additional fentanyl trafficking and firearm offenses.
On April 2, 2026, Ochoa-Vergara pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford announced the sentence. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Hillsboro Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Bockelman prosecuted the case.
Federal officials said the prosecution was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration among law enforcement agencies and community organizations.
