REDMOND, Ore. — The Redmond Police Department will activate Phase One of its Automated Photo Enforcement Traffic Program on May 15, 2026, beginning with a 30-day warning period before citations are issued.
During the initial rollout, drivers who violate traffic laws captured by the system will receive warnings. Full enforcement, including fines, is set to begin June 15, 2026.
Phase One of the program includes six fixed cameras and one mobile unit deployed at high-risk traffic locations throughout the city. Officials say the cameras are intended to improve safety by reducing speeding and red-light violations.
“The warning period gives the community time to get used to the new cameras and change dangerous driving behavior,” said Lt. Curtis Chambers. “Safety is our top priority for the city of Redmond, and this program will be another tool to ensure our roads are safer for all drivers and pedestrians.”
The transportable camera unit will rotate locations based on a schedule determined by the department. Its first placement will be along the 2000 block of Southwest Quartz Avenue.
Phase One camera locations include:
Red-light enforcement cameras:
- Northbound and southbound traffic at Northwest 6th Street and Maple Avenue
- Eastbound and westbound traffic at Northwest Maple Avenue and Northwest 6th Street
Speed enforcement cameras:
- Northbound and southbound traffic in the 2900 block of Northwest 10th Street
Mobile speed enforcement unit:
- Eastbound traffic in the 2000 block of Southwest Quartz Avenue
After the warning period ends, violations will carry the following fines:
- Red light violation: $265
- Speeding 11–20 mph over limit: $165
- Speeding 21–30 mph over limit: $265
- Speeding 31+ mph over limit: $440
- School zone violations: double the base fine
Phase Two of the program, expected in fall or winter 2026, will expand enforcement with seven additional fixed cameras at locations yet to be announced.
According to police, the system captures images of license plates and transmits them securely for review. Officers verify each infraction before a citation is issued to the registered vehicle owner.
The photo enforcement initiative is part of a broader strategy to address ongoing traffic safety concerns in Redmond. Existing measures include radar trailers, driver feedback signs, specialized traffic teams, and targeted enforcement patrols.
