CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (May 4, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26 near Sandy on the evening of April 30 left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 7:29 p.m. near milepost 28. A preliminary investigation found that a gold Toyota Tacoma, driven by 18-year-old Wyatt Branchley Beers of Whitefish, Montana, was traveling eastbound when the driver reportedly fell asleep. The vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a blue Subaru Outback.
The Subaru was driven by 45-year-old Sally Caitlin West of Redmond. Her passenger, 42-year-old Christopher James Hamre, also of Redmond, was pronounced dead at the scene.
West sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight Network to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Beers was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators, authorities said.
The highway was impacted for approximately three hours as emergency crews worked to investigate and clear the scene.
Agencies assisting at the scene included Clackamas Fire District #1, American Medical Response, the Clackamas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
