OREGON CITY — Clackamas Community College will offer free career technical education summer camps August 10–13, providing Clackamas County students an opportunity to explore hands-on career pathways, earn college credit, and develop practical skills ahead of the upcoming school year.
The four-day, in-person camps are organized by the college’s Office of Education Partnerships and are open to students entering grades 9–12 this fall. Programs include introductory experiences in land navigation, emergency management, horticulture, makerspace technology, medical assisting, and cybersecurity.
College officials said the camps are designed to give students early exposure to high-demand career fields through applied learning led by Clackamas Community College faculty and staff. Participants will also experience college-level instruction while exploring technical education pathways tied to regional workforce needs.
“This is an exciting opportunity for students to explore career interests in a supportive college environment while earning college credit,” said Ni’Cole Sims, director of the Office of Education Partnerships. “These camps help students build confidence, discover new possibilities and connect their education to future careers.”
Camp offerings include Organic Farming and Gardening, where students will learn principles and best practices for growing fruits and vegetables in the Pacific Northwest; Makerspace, which introduces digital design and manufacturing using tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, scanners, and CNC machining; and Medical Assisting, which focuses on foundational skills in patient care and healthcare outcomes.
Additional programs include Introduction to Emergency Management, where students participate in a simulated Incident Command Post and learn disaster response and recovery strategies; Introduction to Cybersecurity, which covers threat recognition, privacy, and digital security through hands-on activities; and Introduction to Land Navigation, which teaches map, compass, GPS, and mobile navigation skills through field exercises and digital mapping projects.
All camps will be held on Clackamas Community College’s Oregon City campus at 19600 Molalla Ave. Space is limited, and student placement will be determined through a weighted lottery system.
Registration is open through June 7. Students and families can learn more or apply at www.clackamas.edu/cte-summer-camps or by contacting High School Connections at hsconnections@clackamas.edu or 503-594-3161.
