GRESHAM, Ore. — A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) early Sunday morning after crashing into a tree and briefly fleeing the scene before being located nearby, police said.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on May 4, 2026, Gresham Police officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 16900 block of NE Halsey Street, where a vehicle had struck a tree in front of the Halsey East Townhomes.
According to investigators, witnesses reported that the driver left the crash site shortly after the collision in a separate vehicle. Officers, with assistance from air support already operating in the area, located the vehicle as it returned toward the scene of the crash. The vehicle came to a stop approximately seven blocks away, where officers took the driver into custody.
The suspect requested medical transport to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for injuries sustained in the crash. As part of the investigation, officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. A preliminary report indicated the suspect’s blood alcohol content was 0.223%, nearly three times the legal limit.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Shyrell Padmore, was subsequently booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. She faces charges of DUII, failure to perform the duties of a driver when property is damaged, and first-degree criminal mischief.
The investigation is ongoing.
