Salem Man Sentenced to 9.5 Years in Prison in Three Criminal Cases
SALEM, Ore. — A 42-year-old man was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in three separate criminal cases involving impaired driving, controlled substances and illegal firearm possession.
Daniel Haynes was sentenced October 7, 2026, by Marion County Circuit Court Judge Manuel Perez. The cases were filed under Marion County Circuit Court numbers 25CR48419, 25CR37418 and 25CR69268.
The first case stemmed from a September 18, 2024, crash in northeast Salem. Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a collision involving a motorcycle driven by Haynes and a vehicle making a legal turn.
Haynes and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway. Haynes, his passenger and the other driver were transported to Salem Hospital for treatment.
Subsequent laboratory testing revealed four different controlled substances in Haynes’ blood. He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault.
In a second case, deputies arrested Haynes on June 11, 2025, after finding him in the parking lot of a business on Lancaster Drive with fentanyl and methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.
The third case involved a disturbance call in southeast Salem. When deputies responded, they found Haynes in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine and a firearm.
Haynes pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, unlawful manufacture or delivery of a Schedule II controlled substance, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the Marion County District Attorney’s Office, Haynes was out of custody on a release agreement while awaiting the resolution of the earlier cases when the third incident occurred.
Deputy District Attorney Matthew Estrada represented the state in the cases.
The Marion County District Attorney’s Office also thanked the Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputies involved in the investigations.
