Fire Heavily Damages Vacant Home Near Downtown Eugene
EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Springfield Fire crews responded to a house fire near downtown Eugene early Sunday morning after thick black smoke was reported coming from a vacant home.
Just after 5 a.m. on Aug. 16, firefighters were dispatched to the 1400 block of Ferry Street following a report of smoke coming from the residence.
Engine 1 from the downtown station arrived in less than four minutes and found the single-story home heavily involved in fire. Crews quickly began suppression efforts while also searching the home for any potential victims.
No victims were found, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters remained at the scene for more than two hours as crews conducted extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
