LINCOLN CITY, Ore. — A 63-year-old Amity man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after a Lincoln County jury found him guilty of luring a minor following an undercover investigation by the Lincoln City Police Department.
According to police, Richard Brotherton, 63, was arrested on March 13, 2026, after allegedly initiating a sexually explicit online conversation with an undercover officer who was posing as a minor. Following the investigation, Brotherton was booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a charge of Luring a Minor.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Madeleine Boyle of the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office.
Following testimony presented by the Lincoln City Police Department, a Lincoln County jury found Brotherton guilty of Luring a Minor on July 1, 2026.
On July 16, 2026, a judge sentenced Brotherton to 28 months in the custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections.
The Lincoln City Police Department is now releasing Brotherton’s photograph in an effort to identify any additional potential victims. Investigators ask anyone who recognizes Brotherton or believes they may have information relevant to the investigation to contact the Lincoln City Police Department or their local law enforcement agency.
Police also reminded parents to remain vigilant about their children’s online activity, encouraging families to monitor social media use and discuss the risks of communicating with strangers on the internet.
The department said investigations like this are part of its ongoing efforts to protect children from online sexual predators, prevent exploitation, and enhance community safety.
