GRESHAM, Ore. — The Gresham Police Department has reopened the investigation into the 1993 death of 45-year-old Astrid Bridges after a review of evidence led the Medical Examiner’s Office to reclassify her death as a homicide.
On July 2, 1993, Gresham Police officers responded to a residence on Overlook Court in southwest Gresham, where they found Bridges deceased. Investigators collected physical evidence from the scene, interviewed family members, and canvassed nearby residents for information.
At the time, the Medical Examiner ruled Bridges’ death accidental. However, after a re-examination of the evidence and injuries sustained by Bridges, the Medical Examiner’s Office changed the classification of her death to homicide, prompting authorities to reopen the case.
Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg said additional resources have allowed the department to dedicate personnel to previously unsolved cases.
“Thanks to the combined impacts of the voter-approved Police and Fire levy, our work with the Gresham Police Officer’s Association to hire additional detectives, and our patrol division’s efforts, including the Ceasefire initiative, to reduce ongoing crime, we are now able to assign these important cases for active investigation,” Gullberg said.
Detectives with the Gresham Police Department are leading the renewed investigation, with assistance from investigators with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Lead Detective Tyson Conroy said investigators remain committed to finding answers despite the challenges involved in revisiting a decades-old case.
“While cold case homicides present unique challenges, I am confident we will be able to get justice for Astrid,” Conroy said.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about Bridges’ death or circumstances surrounding the case to contact Detective Tyson Conroy at Tyson.Conroy@GreshamOregon.gov.
