BEAVERTON, Ore. — Firefighters quickly contained a residential structure fire late Wednesday evening after flames and heavy smoke were reported coming from a home in the area of SW 149th Avenue.
Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) crews were dispatched after multiple callers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the residence. While crews were responding, dispatchers received additional reports of black smoke pouring from windows above the garage, with flames visible from second-story windows and extending above the roofline.
The initial report indicated the home’s occupant had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.
The first arriving engine found heavy fire involving the second floor and attic areas of the home. Firefighters immediately began an aggressive interior attack while incident command was established and additional crews worked to secure a water supply, conduct searches, and coordinate ventilation operations.
A primary search of the residence confirmed the home was vacant. During suppression efforts, firefighters received information indicating there could possibly be another person inside, prompting an immediate secondary search. Crews again confirmed that no one remained inside the structure.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the blaze under control, preventing the fire from spreading throughout the rest of the home. Crews remained on scene conducting overhaul operations, salvage work, and assisting fire investigators.
No residents or firefighters were injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
