LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A Newport man has been arrested following a months-long investigation into the online exploitation of a child, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began in February 2026 when Lane County detectives assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force launched an investigation into the online exploitation of a local child involving the Snapchat application.
On July 1, investigators identified the suspect as 19-year-old Diego Rojas-Hernandez of Newport. Because Rojas-Hernandez lived outside of Lane County, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Oregon State Police.
Later that day, Oregon State Police detectives arrested Rojas-Hernandez on charges of Luring a Minor and Online Sexual Corruption in the Second Degree. He was booked into the Lincoln County Jail.
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released at this time.
The Lane County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigates internet-based crimes involving the exploitation of children and works alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to identify offenders and protect children from online predators.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Oregon State Police, the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance with the investigation.
