CORVALLIS, Ore. — A 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting two people with rocks and threatening one of the victims with a meat cleaver at Pioneer Park in Corvallis on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Corvallis Police Department, officers responded to Pioneer Park, located at 1300 SW Philomath Boulevard, at approximately 2:11 p.m. on July 2 following reports of a man throwing rocks and threatening people with a knife.
The investigation determined that Luke Thomas Ludwig, 40, who has no fixed address, allegedly threw rocks that struck a 39-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man, both of whom also have no fixed address. Both victims sustained injuries that were treated at the scene.
Police said Ludwig then allegedly threatened the male victim with a meat cleaver, swung the weapon at him, and chased him before fleeing the park.
Officers located Ludwig a short time later in the nearby area. Authorities said he attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody without further incident.
During the investigation, officers also discovered Ludwig had outstanding warrants issued by the Albany Municipal Court and the Benton County Circuit Court, including a warrant for a parole violation.
Ludwig was lodged at the Benton County Jail on the outstanding warrants and faces the following additional charges:
- Attempted Assault in the First Degree
- Assault in the Second Degree
- Menacing
- Unlawful Use of a Weapon
