EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane County Elections Office announced it will post the final results of the May Primary Election by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, five days earlier than originally scheduled.
County officials said the accelerated timeline is possible because election staff are prepared to quickly process any remaining challenged ballots that are cured by voters before the deadline.
“Today is the deadline for voters to address any missing or non-matching ballot return envelope signatures so their ballots could be counted,” said Lane County Clerk Tommy Gong. “These were ballots received or postmarked by May 19 and those voters were sent letters with instructions about how to cure their ballots. There are 995 challenged ballots outstanding.”
A ballot may be challenged if the signature on the return envelope is missing or does not match the voter’s signature on file. Voters whose ballots were challenged were notified and given instructions on how to resolve the issue so their votes could be counted.
Once the Elections Office processes any ballots cured by the deadline, final election results will be posted Wednesday. Following the release of those results, election officials will begin the certification process with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office.
The Lane County Elections Office, located at 275 W. 10th Avenue in Eugene, is responsible for administering elections throughout the county. Its duties include voter registration, mail ballot processing, recruiting and training election workers, and certifying election results.
Officials encourage voters who received notices regarding signature issues to act before the deadline to ensure their ballots are included in the final count.
