MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office has released new details about a shooting that injured a teenage girl Friday afternoon near Northeast 235th Avenue and Northeast Arata Road in Wood Village.
According to investigators, the victim is a 14-year-old girl who remains hospitalized with injuries considered non-life threatening. Authorities said no additional identifying information about the teen will be released in order to protect her privacy.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office continue to investigate the shooting in coordination with the district attorney’s office. Investigators are interviewing witnesses, reviewing video footage, and processing evidence collected from the scene.
While the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, detectives believe the incident may have begun as an argument before gunfire erupted.
Authorities said the suspect fled the area after the shooting. Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public at this time.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the incident — including cellphone video recorded before, during, or after the shooting — to contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 503-823-3333 if they have not already spoken with deputies.
Officials also noted that because the investigation remains active, they are limiting the release of unconfirmed details to avoid compromising the case or affecting the administration of justice.
The shooting was first reported Friday afternoon after a nearby school bus driver called 911 to report gunfire near a bus stop in the Wood Village area.
