MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting involving a female minor that occurred Friday afternoon near Northeast 235th Avenue and Northeast Arata Road in Wood Village.
According to authorities, the investigation began around 4:14 p.m. on May 15 when a school bus driver called 911 to report a shooting near a bus stop in the area.
Deputies arrived within minutes and located an injured female minor suffering from a gunshot wound. First responders provided life-saving aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. Officials said the girl was alert and responsive while receiving treatment at the scene.
Investigators confirmed the victim is a minor, though her exact age has not yet been verified. Authorities said the relationship between the victim, the school bus, and others who were present at the time of the shooting remains under investigation.
Witnesses told investigators the suspect fled the area immediately after the shooting. Law enforcement officers continue searching for the individual responsible. Officials said there is currently no shelter-in-place order connected to the incident.
Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting and are asking drivers to expect possible traffic delays near Northeast 235th Avenue and Northeast Arata Road while the investigation continues.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call 911 or the non-emergency dispatch line at 503-823-3333.
Officials noted that details released so far are preliminary and may change as the investigation develops.
