WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. — A man was taken into custody Tuesday morning following a drone-assisted search and K9 track after deputies responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle and an armed individual near a storage facility in Aloha.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near storage garages at 4050 SW 160th Avenue. The caller reported seeing a man inside the vehicle with a firearm.
Upon arrival, deputies requested aerial support, deploying a drone to safely monitor the scene from above. Through the drone feed, deputies observed a man exiting a nearby storage unit. When he noticed law enforcement presence, he fled south across the parking lot, jumped a fence, and ran toward SW Blanton Street in Aloha.
During the investigation, deputies confirmed there were firearms inside the abandoned vehicle, which was later determined to have been stolen. A containment area was established, and a K9 unit was requested to assist in tracking the suspect.
Deputy Oien and his K9 partner, Rexx, responded to the scene and began tracking the suspect with continued aerial support from the drone. The K9 track led deputies to a nearby green space, where the suspect was found hiding under a blanket in dense brush.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Vance Lind of Mesa, Arizona, was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Washington County Jail on multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felon in possession of a weapon, false information to a police officer, and an outstanding warrant from Arizona.
Following the arrest, detectives with the Washington County Community Violence Reduction Team (CoVRT) executed a search warrant on the vehicle and storage unit connected to Lind. Investigators reported recovering additional firearms and stolen merchandise as part of the ongoing investigation.
