BEAVERTON, Ore. (April 13, 2026) — Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 29-year-old man Saturday evening after he fled on foot and was located hiding along a trail in Beaverton.
At approximately 5:48 p.m. on April 11, deputies attempted to contact Rafael Ortiz near the 4900 block of Southwest Greensboro Way. Ortiz was wanted on multiple felony warrants and was also connected to a domestic violence assault case reported March 28.
According to authorities, Ortiz ran from deputies and entered the Westside Trail, where he attempted to conceal himself in dense blackberry bushes. Corporal Sam Terry responded to assist with his K-9 partner, Griff. The K-9 team tracked Ortiz to a location near Southwest 160th Avenue, where he was found hiding.
Officials said Ortiz failed to comply with commands to surrender, prompting K-9 Griff to apprehend him.
Ortiz sustained puncture wounds during the arrest and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After receiving medical care, he was booked into the Washington County Jail.
He faces multiple charges, including felony fourth-degree assault, coercion, third-degree escape, harassment, and violation of a release agreement. He also had nine outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.
K-9 Griff, a 6-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, is a certified patrol dog through the Oregon Police Canine Association. Griff has been partnered with Corporal Terry since April 2021, and the team has been credited with 146 captures.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have relevant security camera footage to contact non-emergency dispatch at 503-629-0111 and reference case number 50-26-4258.
