PORTLAND, Ore. (April 13, 2026) — The Jefferson Dancers will mark a major milestone this week as they launch their 2026 Spring Concert Series, celebrating their 50th season with an opening night performance on Thursday, April 16, at the Newmark Theatre.
The anniversary series highlights the program’s legacy, with each performance featuring choreography and appearances by alumni, showcasing the lasting impact of one of the region’s most recognized youth dance programs.
A longstanding community tradition continues on Friday, April 17, when the company hosts a free student matinee for nearly 900 students from Portland Public Schools. The matinee prioritizes attendance from Jefferson High School feeder schools, Title I schools, and campuses with established dance programs—many of whose students may be experiencing live, professional-caliber dance for the first time.
The spring concert series will feature nine original works, many choreographed by program alumni. Performances will span a diverse range of styles, including classical ballet, contemporary dance, and high-energy hip-hop, reflecting the artistic evolution of the program over five decades.
Friday evening’s performance will also include four special alumni interludes, bringing former dancers from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s back to the stage in a tribute to the group’s history and influence.
In addition, two student choreographed pieces—recently selected for the Outstanding Student Choreography Showcase at the National High School Dance Festival—will be featured as part of the program, highlighting the continued excellence and creativity of current dancers.
The Jefferson Dancers’ 50th anniversary season not only honors its storied past but also underscores its ongoing role in shaping the next generation of performers in Portland and beyond.
