Oregon – Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05) released the following statement after attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress.
“With Americans still being held hostage by Hamas terrorists, I appreciated hearing from Prime Minister Netanyahu today about the importance of strengthening our alliance, countering terrorism in the Middle East, and rejecting antisemitism. Earlier this year, I joined several of my colleagues to visit communities brutally destroyed on October 7 and saw the resilience of the Israeli people firsthand. The Jewish faith is strong, the Israeli people are strong, and the United States will continue to support and protect Israel and its right to exist,” Chavez-DeRemer said.
Chavez-DeRemer supported the bipartisan national security supplemental signed into law earlier this year, providing $26 billion to support Israeli defenses. Additionally, she voted for several bills to hold Iran and its terrorist proxies accountable after they launched an attack on Israel.
As a member of the Education and the Workforce Committee, Chavez-DeRemer passed the Civil Rights Protection Act to help protect Jewish students facing antisemitic attacks on college campuses. She has been an outspoken advocate for Jewish students by holding universities accountable – condemning Columbia’s failure to fire an antisemitic professor, calling out prestigious universities’ lack of Jewish history course offerings, and denouncing universities like UCLA that failed to end unlawful and antisemitic protests.
