DALLAS, Ore. — A 56-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing a Ford F-150 pickup truck in Pasco, Washington.
Mario Mendoza appeared before Polk County Circuit Court Judge pro tem Timothy R. Park and pleaded guilty to one count of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. In addition to the prison sentence, Mendoza will be required to serve 12 months of post-prison supervision following his release.
According to investigators, the truck was stolen in Pasco approximately two weeks before Mendoza was arrested in the parking lot of the West Salem Goodwill.
During his arrest, Mendoza told police he had been borrowing the pickup to obtain a part needed to repair his bicycle.
Court officials said Mendoza has an extensive criminal history involving fraud and other property crimes dating back more than 20 years.
Mendoza will serve the 24-month prison sentence followed by the 12 months of post-prison supervision.
