PORTLAND, Ore. — September 4, 2026 — A 35-year-old Portland man pleaded no contest Friday to first-degree manslaughter and guilty to second-degree abuse of a corpse in connection with the 2024 death of his romantic partner, Jeannie Enyeart.
Jon Pharris Ray French entered the pleas in Multnomah County Circuit Court in case 24CR06379.
Enyeart was reported missing by her son on January 29, 2024, after he became concerned because he had been unable to reach her by phone for an unusually long period.
According to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, when Portland police contacted French, he told investigators that he had seen Enyeart the previous day and that her vehicle should be parked in the driveway of the Portland home they shared.
Investigators instead learned that Enyeart’s vehicle had crashed into a snowbank on a rural road near Stevenson, Washington. The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office told investigators that the vehicle had been towed from the crash scene and that French had been driving it when it crashed.
A search of the vehicle located Enyeart’s body in the backseat beneath a moving blanket, along with other items.
An autopsy determined that Enyeart died from blunt trauma to the neck. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Police arrested French on February 5, 2024, in connection with Enyeart’s death.
The case was prosecuted by Multnomah County Chief Deputy District Attorney Todd Jackson and Deputy District Attorney Ryan Solomon.
The District Attorney’s Office credited the Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detail, specifically Detectives Brent Christensen and Scott Broughton, for their investigative work. The office also recognized Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office victim advocates for providing care and support to Enyeart’s family.
French is scheduled to be sentenced September 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. before Judge Jenna Plank in courtroom 13B.
