DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision on Highway 38 in Douglas County, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. Sept. 1 near milepost 27.
According to the preliminary investigation, a blue Honda Ridgeline pickup driven by Gail Elizabeth Smith, 65, of Coburg, was traveling eastbound when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lanes.
The Honda collided head-on with a yellow Douglas County Public Works International dump truck traveling westbound. The dump truck was operated by Cody James Miller, 25, of Winchester Bay.
Smith and Miller were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
Highway 38 was impacted for approximately four hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the crash scene.
The Oregon State Police investigation remains ongoing.
OSP was assisted by the Elkton Fire Rural Protection District, North Douglas County Fire & EMS, Scottsburg Rural Fire District, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
