LANE COUNTY, Ore. — A Veneta man was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a pickup truck while walking along Highway 126W in Lane County, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash happened at approximately 9:15 p.m. Sept. 1 near milepost 48.
According to the preliminary investigation, 24-year-old Christian Michael McCawley of Elmira was driving a silver Toyota Tacoma westbound on Highway 126W when the pickup struck 52-year-old Robert Bryan Richardson of Veneta.
Richardson was walking westbound in the westbound lane of travel when he was hit. Police said the section of highway is unlit and Richardson was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the crash.
Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene. McCawley was not injured.
Highway 126W was affected for approximately two hours while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.
The Oregon State Police investigation was assisted by Lane Fire Authority, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
