PORTLAND, Ore. — A Mexican national has been sentenced to more than eight years in federal prison for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute it, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
Eduardo Misael Garcia-Sanchez, 29, was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release. The court determined that Garcia-Sanchez qualified as a career offender based on his prior drug-dealing convictions.
“This case showed true teamwork amongst our law enforcement agencies to bring this drug dealer to justice,” U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford said. “I am grateful for the partnership and hard work of our law enforcement. With these brave men and women, we are able to disrupt the distribution of dangerous drugs in our Oregon communities.”
According to court documents, investigators with the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force (CCITF) were investigating a Portland-area drug dealer on August 5, 2025. During the investigation, Garcia-Sanchez’s vehicle was identified as allegedly supplying other drug dealers.
Investigators followed the vehicle as it traveled out of Portland. An Oregon State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop, during which investigators reportedly observed a large bundle of cash and what appeared to be heroin inside the vehicle.
Garcia-Sanchez was taken into custody, and investigators searched the vehicle. Beneath the driver’s seat, they found a clear plastic bag containing approximately 10 individual bindles of fentanyl that appeared to be packaged for sale.
Authorities ultimately seized approximately 120.9 grams of fentanyl powder, 51.8 grams of heroin and $5,349 in cash, according to court documents.
Garcia-Sanchez was taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center and placed on a federal hold.
A federal grand jury in Portland returned a two-count indictment against Garcia-Sanchez on September 3, 2025, charging him with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
On May 12, 2026, Garcia-Sanchez pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and CCITF, with assistance from Oregon State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin prosecuted the case.
The Clackamas County Interagency Task Force, led by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, works to investigate and disrupt drug trafficking organizations operating in and around Clackamas County. The task force includes personnel from the Canby Police Department, Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, FBI and Oregon National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.
Officials said the task force receives support through the Public Safety Levy and grant funding from the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
The case was also identified as part of the federal Homeland Security Task Force initiative and Operation Take Back America, nationwide efforts focused on investigating and prosecuting drug trafficking organizations, transnational criminal organizations and other serious crimes.
Garcia-Sanchez remains subject to four years of federal supervised release following his prison sentence.
