JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — Anthony Teal was arrested Tuesday, August 11, 2026, after Josephine County Sheriff’s deputies located him inside an RV near Cloverlawn and he barricaded himself in the vehicle’s bathroom.
Authorities said Teal was suspected of being in the Cloverlawn area following several reports of suspicious activity. Later Tuesday afternoon, a resident reported that someone was likely inside an RV on the resident’s property.
Because of the earlier reports involving Teal, deputies cautiously approached the RV and made contact with the person inside. Teal barricaded himself in the bathroom and refused to surrender.
Deputies attempted to negotiate with Teal for an extended period. When there were no indications that he would voluntarily come out, chemical agents were introduced into the RV while negotiations continued.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Grants Pass Police Department SWAT team and the Grants Pass Crisis Negotiation Team. AMR-Josephine County medics also staged nearby in case emergency medical assistance was required.
Teal was ultimately taken into custody without further incident.
Following the arrest, Teal was lodged at the Josephine County Jail on charges including fourth-degree assault constituting domestic violence, strangulation, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree robbery, and unlawful use of a vehicle.
Additional charges of failure to perform the duties of a driver to injured persons, commonly known as hit-and-run, and eluding will be referred to the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office will also handle criminal charges stemming from Tuesday’s barricaded-person incident.
The Grants Pass Police Department said the arrest followed an ongoing effort to locate Teal after a series of crimes reported July 30. Detectives and local law enforcement agencies had been following tips and other information regarding his whereabouts.
Police credited residents who reported Teal’s suspected activities Tuesday, saying their information helped authorities locate him. Investigators also warned that people who knowingly helped Teal evade arrest could potentially face criminal charges.
