CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — Detectives with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide at a rural Central Point residence after a man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound early Wednesday morning.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon dispatchers received a report of gunshots near the 6000 block of Kershaw Road at approximately 4:05 a.m. on July 15. Deputies responded to the residence and discovered a man inside who had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim has been identified as Juan Carlos Ramirez-Arango, 62, of Central Point. Authorities said his next of kin have been notified. The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to Ramirez-Arango’s family and those affected by his death.
Investigators said evidence gathered at the scene led to the arrest of Pamela Sue Maya, 67, of Central Point, who was reportedly in a relationship with the victim.
Maya has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Jackson County Jail.
The Ashland Police Department and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation, while the Oregon State Police Forensics Laboratory processed the crime scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
