MEDFORD, Ore. — A federal grand jury in Medford has indicted a 32-year-old Medford man on charges alleging he illegally possessed firearms, homemade firearm silencers and an unregistered destructive device.
Michael Scott Beugli appeared in federal court Monday to be arraigned on a superseding indictment and seek release from custody. Beugli pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending trial.
According to court documents, the case began on Feb. 24, 2026, when a witness reportedly saw Beugli throwing firearms from his residence in Medford. Beugli is a convicted felon and is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms.
After Beugli fled the property, law enforcement officers reportedly located nine firearms and additional homemade silencers at the residence.
About a month later, authorities say Beugli sent threatening messages to the witness.
On March 25, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded after an explosive device detonated inside a vehicle at the witness’s residence. Beugli was subsequently located nearby at another home, where authorities allegedly found similar devices and explosive materials.
Federal prosecutors allege that Beugli had not registered the silencers or destructive devices with the ATF as required by federal law.
Beugli initially appeared in federal court on Aug. 17, where he was arraigned on a single count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending trial.
A jury trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 28, 2026.
The superseding indictment charges Beugli with possessing nine firearms as a convicted felon, possessing unregistered firearm silencers and possessing an unregistered destructive device.
If convicted, Beugli faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford for the District of Oregon announced the indictment.
The ATF is investigating the case in coordination with the Medford Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland Police Department and Oregon State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara T. Shaw is prosecuting the case.
The prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative that brings federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and other public safety partners together to combat violent crime and improve public safety.
An indictment is only an accusation of a crime. Beugli is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
