GRANT COUNTY, Ore. — A 76-year-old Falls City man was killed Sunday afternoon after the van he was driving left the roadway and overturned down a rocky embankment along Highway 7 near Prairie City, according to the Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:38 p.m. on July 5 near milepost 7 in Grant County.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray Dodge van pulling a utility trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 7 when it left the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The van and trailer traveled down a steep, rocky embankment, where the van came to rest upside down. The attached utility trailer landed on top of the overturned vehicle.
The driver, identified as Fred Lynn Doke, 76, of Falls City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the crash did not impact traffic on Highway 7 during the investigation.
The Oregon State Police were assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
