REDMOND, Ore. — Centennial Park in Redmond was temporarily closed Monday after city officials discovered a small, contained chlorine leak, prompting a hazardous materials response.
The incident was reported at approximately 11:14 a.m. on July 6, 2026. According to city officials, the leak is contained and localized within the park. The Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team from Salem has been dispatched to assist with cleanup operations.
Officials expect Centennial Park to remain closed for several hours while crews work to safely mitigate the leak.
Authorities said there is a noticeable chlorine odor in the area, but emphasized that the incident does not pose an imminent threat to the surrounding community. Residents are asked to avoid the park to ensure their safety and to allow emergency responders unobstructed access to the scene.
No injuries have been reported.
The Redmond Police Department is reminding the public that anyone who smells gas or discovers a suspected chemical leak should report it immediately to non-emergency dispatch by calling 541-693-6911.
Redmond Fire & Rescue is serving as the lead agency for the incident and will handle all media inquiries regarding the response and cleanup efforts.
