LINCOLN COUNTY, Ore. — A 35-year-old Grand Ronde man was killed and a Salem woman was seriously injured Thursday morning in a head-on crash on Highway 18 in Lincoln County, according to the Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m. on July 2 near milepost 1.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray Nissan pickup, driven by Bryan James Anderson, 35, of Grand Ronde, was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a blue Ford Maverick pickup.
The Ford was being driven by Jenny Fiddyment Wiens, 63, of Salem.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said he was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Wiens suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crash closed or significantly impacted traffic on Highway 18 for approximately three hours while investigators processed the scene and crews cleared the roadway.
The Oregon State Police were assisted by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
