DALLAS, Ore. — Three young men have been sentenced in Polk County Circuit Court for their roles in a violent 2025 attack in which a man was lured to Wallace Marine Park, assaulted, pepper-sprayed, and terrorized during an attempted robbery.
Robert Lanoy, 19, of West Salem, Chance Lawrence, 18, of Salem, and Xavier Wilcox, 19, of West Salem, each pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree robbery, third-degree assault, reckless endangering, and menacing in connection with the August 4, 2025, attack.
According to the Polk County District Attorney’s Office, the three defendants lured the victim from the Transit Mall in downtown Salem to the boat ramp area at Wallace Marine Park. Once there, they forced the victim to remove his clothing before beating and kicking him and repeatedly spraying pepper spray into his eyes and face.
Prosecutors said the victim repeatedly begged the attackers to stop as they verbally humiliated him while continuing the assault. The victim suffered injuries to his eyes and other physical trauma.
Lanoy was sentenced by Judge Campbell on Jan. 7, 2026, after pleading guilty to all four charges. He received a sentence of 90 months (7½ years) in prison, followed by 30 months of post-prison supervision.
Lawrence was sentenced by Judge Campbell on June 8, 2026. He also received 90 months in prison and 30 months of post-prison supervision after pleading guilty to the same charges.
Wilcox was sentenced by Judge Park on June 16, 2026. He received 36 months (three years) in prison, followed by 36 months of post-prison supervision.
The Polk County District Attorney’s Office credited the Salem Police Department and its detectives for their investigation and thanked the victim for his cooperation and courage throughout the prosecution.
The case was prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Matthew Wilson.
