SELMA, Ore. — A 42-year-old Selma man has been arrested on homicide charges after a woman was found dead in a remote area of Upper Deer Creek Road following a two-day investigation by the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a 911 call on June 27 reporting that a woman had suffered a gunshot wound in the Deer Creek Road area near Selma. The caller had poor cell phone service, was unable to provide an exact location, and later lost the connection. After leaving the area, the caller attempted to report the incident from another location, but investigators were unable to re-establish contact.
Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Oregon State Police searched the area for the reported victim but were unable to locate her that day.

A Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Land Management deputy, assisted by two BLM rangers, located the body of 57-year-old Veronica Marie Gray in a remote area off Upper Deer Creek Road.
During the investigation, detectives conducted multiple interviews and identified 42-year-old Monty Ryan Breedlove as the primary suspect.
Breedlove was taken into custody and booked into the Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree manslaughter and felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities said Gray’s next of kin has been notified.
