A woman was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a business in Phoenix, and the crash remains under investigation by the region’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:04 p.m. on June 24 to the 4400 block of South Pacific Highway following reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision.
When emergency responders arrived, bystanders were already performing lifesaving measures on the victim. Despite their efforts and those of first responders, the 81-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said her identity is being withheld out of respect for her family’s privacy.
Police said the driver, a 62-year-old Medford man operating a 2019 Toyota Tundra, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Officials have not released additional information about what led to the collision, citing the ongoing investigation.
The case is being investigated with assistance from the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team, a specialized multi-agency unit that investigates fatal and complex serious injury crashes. The team operates through a collaborative agreement involving the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Medford Police Department, Ashland Police Department, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
Phoenix Police extended condolences to the victim’s family and expressed gratitude to the bystanders who immediately began lifesaving efforts before emergency crews arrived.
Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
