Teen Rescued from Dense Woods Near Corbett After Search and Rescue Operation
CORBETT, Ore. — A 14-year-old boy was safely rescued Tuesday evening after becoming trapped in a heavily wooded area near his family’s home in Corbett, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
The rescue operation began at approximately 5:30 p.m. on June 23, when the Bureau of Emergency Communications received a report that the teenager had wandered into the woods near Camp Angelos and was unable to find his way back.
Deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (MCSOSAR) team responded to the scene. The effort combined specialized ground search teams with aerial support from the Sheriff’s Office Drone Team.
Shortly after arriving, two deputies launched drones into the area and successfully located the teen from the air. Drone operators confirmed the boy was remaining in one location while search teams navigated the challenging terrain.
As rescuers moved toward the teenager, they discovered he was surrounded by a dense barrier of blackberry bushes that made access difficult. Ground crews used cutting tools to clear a path through the thick vegetation while drone operators continued to monitor the teen’s condition and safety from above.
At 7:12 p.m., search and rescue personnel reached the teenager and determined he had not been injured. Rescuers then escorted him out of the brush-covered area.
The teen and all members of the search teams safely returned to the command post by 7:30 p.m., bringing the operation to a successful conclusion.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office credited the coordinated efforts of MCSOSAR coordinators, volunteer search teams, deputies, and drone operators for ensuring the incident ended safely and without injuries.
MCSOSAR is a volunteer organization that serves as the primary search and rescue resource for Multnomah County and the western Columbia River Gorge. In addition to locating lost or injured individuals in wilderness and urban environments, the team assists with emergency evacuations, evidence searches, and public education efforts.
