NEWPORT, Ore. — A follow-up investigation conducted by the Oregon State Police and the Newport Police Department on Wednesday afternoon ended in the use of deadly force near the 1500 block of Siletz River Highway, authorities said.
According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 3:54 p.m. on June 17. Details surrounding the investigation and the events leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.
The suspect involved in the incident was pronounced dead. No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured.
The Lincoln County Major Crimes Team has been activated and is responding to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area while investigators process the scene. Officials emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
