LEBANON, Ore. — A woman was rescued from a heavily damaged vehicle and three people were transported to the hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Berlin Road late Tuesday morning, according to the Lebanon Fire District.
Emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 11:21 a.m. to the 32000 block of Berlin Road for a reported motor vehicle crash. The first arriving Battalion Chief found a single vehicle that had left the roadway and sustained significant damage.
An adult female occupant was trapped inside the vehicle when firefighters arrived. An off-duty Lebanon Fire District volunteer firefighter who happened upon the scene before responding units arrived began providing emergency care to the injured woman.
The vehicle’s other occupants, an adult male and a child, had already exited the vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.
Firefighters with Engine 31 immediately began extrication efforts using hydraulic rescue tools while paramedics from Medic 31 provided advanced medical treatment to the trapped patient. A second medic unit, Medic 34, arrived shortly afterward and assessed and treated the other two occupants.
Despite the extensive damage to the vehicle, firefighters were able to safely free the woman in less than 10 minutes.
All three occupants were transported to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis for evaluation and treatment.
Officials said incidents involving trapped occupants require a significant commitment of personnel and equipment. The response utilized all available staffed Lebanon Fire District units. During the rescue operation, the district initiated a first alarm for personnel, calling in available off-duty and volunteer firefighters to either respond directly to the scene or staff district stations to maintain emergency coverage throughout the community.
While crews were committed to the crash response, another medical emergency occurred elsewhere in the district. That incident was handled by Lebanon Fire volunteers, with ambulance assistance provided by the Albany Fire Department.
Berlin Road was temporarily closed during the incident to allow emergency crews to work safely and manage the scene.
The Lebanon Police Department and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control and scene management.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
