KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — An armed man was killed and a child was injured Friday morning during an officer-involved shooting in Klamath Falls, according to the Klamath Falls Police Department.
Police said officers were dispatched at approximately 9:33 a.m. on June 5 to the 900 block of East Main Street after receiving a 911 call requesting a welfare check related to a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with an armed adult male at the residence. During an altercation with the individual, responding officers discharged their weapons. The man was struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A minor child was also injured during the incident and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities said the child remains under medical care and is in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The Klamath County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the shooting, in accordance with standard protocol. The team includes members of the Oregon State Police, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Klamath Falls Police Department, Klamath County Parole and Probation, and the Klamath County District Attorney’s Office.
The Oregon State Police has been designated as the lead agency overseeing the investigation.
Officials said the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased man, and no additional details were available Friday.
