PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon has donated more than 2,000 food and household items to local food pantries across the state as part of Freedom 250, a nationwide initiative commemorating America’s 250th birthday.
The charitable effort involved staff members from the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Portland, Eugene, and Medford, who collected and delivered donations to organizations serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in their communities.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford praised employees for their generosity and commitment to public service.
“I am incredibly proud of our staff for coming together to support families in our local communities through this food drive,” Bradford said. “Their generosity and commitment to service reflect the very best of public service, and I am grateful for the meaningful impact these donations will have on local food pantries and the individuals and families they serve.”
In Portland, employees delivered more than 600 pounds of food to Neighborhood House. The nonprofit has provided free, nutritious food to Portland residents for more than 40 years and serves more than 850 households each month.
The Eugene office contributed nearly 500 pounds of food to Food for Lane County, enough to provide approximately 395 meals. The organization works with 150 partner agencies, including 34 food pantries and more than 100 supplemental food programs, to assist children, families, and seniors throughout Lane County.
Meanwhile, the Medford office donated more than 300 pounds of food to ACCESS. The agency supports more than 30 emergency food pantries across Jackson County and provides assistance to low-income individuals and families.
The food drive was part of Freedom 250, a nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Communities across the country are participating in events and service projects designed to honor the nation’s history and strengthen local communities.
Federal officials said the Oregon donations highlight the spirit of service and civic engagement that Freedom 250 aims to promote as the nation approaches its semiquincentennial celebration.
