MULTNOMAH COUNTY, Ore. — The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help identifying the driver of a semi-truck involved in a hit-and-run crash that caused a commercial water truck to roll over along Interstate 84 Monday night.
Deputies responded around 9 p.m. on May 18, 2026, to the crash scene on eastbound I-84 about a half mile west of Dalton Point Recreation Site.
According to a preliminary investigation, a blue or purple semi-truck pulling a trailer changed lanes into the path of a white commercial water truck. Investigators said the semi clipped the front passenger side of the water truck, causing the driver to lose control.
The water truck then veered off the interstate, traveled approximately 100 feet into a heavily wooded area, and rolled onto its driver’s side.
Authorities said neither the driver nor the passenger in the water truck suffered serious injuries. The driver is cooperating with investigators.
The driver of the semi-truck did not stop after the collision and remains unidentified.
Firefighters responding to the scene evaluated the overturned truck because of concerns about possible hazardous materials. Officials later confirmed the tank contained only water, eliminating any environmental threat.
Due to the truck’s location deep within brush and trees, deputies requested assistance from a local towing company to conduct a complex recovery operation. Two heavy-lift tow vehicles were used to remove the heavily damaged truck from the wooded area.

Officials also released video of the crash in hopes of generating leads in the investigation.
The sheriff’s office noted that details released are preliminary and may change as the investigation continues.
