Two Arrested After Stolen Pickup Located in Bend

BEND, Ore. — Two people were arrested early Saturday morning after a stolen pickup truck was recovered by Bend Police less than an hour after it was reported missing.

According to police, officers responded around 3 a.m. on April 10, 2021, to the 60000 block of Sally Lane after receiving a report that a silver 2013 Toyota Tacoma had been stolen from a driveway. The caller reported seeing two people inside the pickup as it left the subdivision.

Investigators said the owner had left the vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.

Officers initially searched the area but were unable to immediately locate the truck. Approximately 40 minutes later, an officer spotted the stolen Toyota near Northeast 27th Street and Highway 20 East. A traffic stop was conducted near Highway 20 East and Northeast Dalton Street.

Police arrested the driver, identified as 44-year-old Kory William Brown of California, on a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The passenger initially refused to identify herself and was also taken into custody. Through further investigation, officers determined the woman was a 27-year-old from Albany who had been listed as a missing person out of Linn County.

Both suspects were lodged at the Deschutes County Adult Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The Toyota Tacoma was returned to its owner.

Bend Police reminded community members to lock their vehicles, roll up windows, and avoid leaving keys or valuables inside unattended vehicles.
