PORTLAND, Ore., May 4, 2026 – Kaiser Permanente’s Sunnyside and Westside medical centers in Portland have been recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026, highlighting the facilities’ excellence in maternal and newborn care.
“We are honored to have Kaiser Permanente be recognized among the nation’s top maternity hospitals, which reflects the compassionate, high-quality care our teams provide every day,” said Elizabeth Melendez, MD, Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Kaiser Permanente Northwest. “This distinction underscores our teams’ dedication to supporting mothers and babies with expertise, collaboration, and heartfelt commitment at every step of their journey.”
Sunnyside and Westside medical centers are among 29 Kaiser Permanente hospitals nationwide included in the 2026 rankings, which identify the leading maternity care providers in the United States.
The America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026 list is developed through a combination of performance indicators, including hospital quality metrics with an emphasis on maternity-related outcomes, patient experience data drawn from public hospital surveys, and a reputation score based on recommendations from healthcare professionals. These include physicians, nurses, midwives, and specialists in neonatal and perinatal care.
According to Newsweek and Statista, the ranking aims to recognize hospitals providing exceptional maternity services from pregnancy through childbirth and postpartum care. Experts note that high-quality maternity care plays a critical role in the long-term health of both newborns and birthing parents.
Kaiser Permanente’s inclusion reflects its continued investment in coordinated maternity services and patient-centered care across its facilities.
