SALEM, Ore. – The winners of a statewide video and graphic design contest aimed at promoting workplace safety among teens will be announced during a livestream event at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 5.
The event, hosted by the Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition, will showcase the top entries created by Oregon high school students and reveal the winners in both video and graphic design categories. The livestream will be available to the public at youngemployeesafety.org/contest/.
The 2026 contest challenged students to develop compelling advertisements encouraging young workers to take a heat-illness prevention course offered by Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division. The goal was to highlight the importance of workplace safety, particularly during the summer months when rising temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illness on the job.
Participants were tasked with crafting a message, theme, or tagline that would resonate with teen workers or those preparing to enter the workforce for the first time. Submissions included either graphic designs or videos no longer than 90 seconds, all focused on motivating peers to take proactive steps toward protecting their health at work.
Winners will be selected in two categories, with the top three entries in each receiving cash prizes ranging from $300 to $500. First-place winners will also earn a matching award for their school, club, or organization. In addition, the coalition plans to incorporate standout submissions into future safety campaigns aimed at improving workplace protections for young employees.
The contest is supported by several organizations committed to workplace safety, including the American Society of Safety Professionals, Construction Safety Summit, Central Oregon Safety & Health Association, Hoffman Construction Company, Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University, SafeBuild Alliance, SAIF Corporation, and the SHARP Alliance.
Organizers say the contest not only fosters creativity among students but also plays a vital role in raising awareness about workplace hazards and empowering young workers to stay safe.
