WARRENTON, Ore. – Soldiers with the Oregon Army National Guard’s 442nd Engineer Utilities Detachment (EUD) will be honored during a mobilization ceremony Sunday as they prepare for a year-long overseas deployment.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on May 3, 2026, at Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Center near Warrenton. The event will recognize the unit’s upcoming mission and provide an opportunity for family members and invited guests to show support before the soldiers depart.
The 442nd EUD, made up of U.S. Army engineers, is set to deploy as part of the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA). During the deployment, the unit will provide both vertical and horizontal construction support at military installations across the Horn of Africa region.
CJTF-HOA is tasked with strengthening partnerships, promoting regional stability, deterring conflict, and protecting U.S. and coalition interests in East Africa.
“Our Soldiers have trained hard for this mission and are ready to serve,” said Maj. Emilie Anderson, commander of the 442nd EUD. “We are proud to represent Oregon and our nation and look forward to making a meaningful contribution throughout the Horn of Africa.”
The 442nd EUD operates under the 1240th Engineer Battalion, which is headquartered in Salem. Attendance at Sunday’s ceremony is limited to service members, their families, and invited guests.
