Medford — A Medford man has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor in his care and distributing child sexual abuse material, federal authorities announced.
David Michael Burnett, 37, received a sentence of 360 months in prison, followed by a lifetime term of supervised release.
According to court documents, beginning in June 2024, Burnett produced and sent five videos depicting himself sexually abusing a minor victim in his care. A subsequent investigation led to the seizure of Burnett’s electronic devices, where authorities discovered more than 300 videos and nearly 8,000 images of child sexual abuse material.
A federal grand jury in Medford returned a two-count indictment against Burnett on August 1, 2024, charging him with sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography. He pleaded guilty to both counts on February 3, 2026.
The sentencing was announced by Scott E. Bradford, U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Medford Police Department. Prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Harper.
Officials said the case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to identify victims, apprehend offenders, and prosecute those responsible for exploiting children.
