CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (May 1, 2026) — A two-vehicle crash on Highway 99E near Canby Monday evening left one person dead and several others injured, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 7:10 p.m. on April 27 near milepost 23. A preliminary investigation found that a gray Kia Telluride, driven by Nathan Dale Ellis, 50, of Hubbard, was traveling southbound on Highway 99E when it failed to stop at a traffic signal at South Barlow Road.
At the same time, a tan Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Jesus David Barajas Diaz, 47, of Canby, was turning left from South Barlow Road to head northbound on Highway 99E. The Kia struck the driver’s side of the pickup.
A passenger in the Kia, Sharon Lyn Prentice, 71, of Hubbard, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ellis was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Two additional passengers in the Kia, Crystal Dawn Grumbo, 47, of Aumsville, and three juveniles, were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Diaz and his passenger, Juan Alonso Ocegueda Lopez, 45, sustained minor injuries and were transported for treatment.
The highway was impacted for approximately six hours while investigators processed the scene.
Oregon State Police were assisted by the Canby Fire Department, Canby Police Department, American Medical Response, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
