JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — April 29, 2026 — A reported threat to North Valley High School late Wednesday morning prompted a rapid law enforcement response and temporary lockdown, authorities said.
According to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 10:48 a.m. when North Valley High School received a phone call containing a threat. Officials have not released specific details about the nature of the threat, citing the ongoing investigation.
Deputies and troopers from the Oregon State Police responded immediately to the campus. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown while law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the building and surrounding grounds. Authorities reported that no weapons or suspicious items were found.
In response to the incident, all schools within the Three Rivers School District were placed under a “secure” status. Under that designation, doors remained locked and classes continued indoors, but all outdoor activities were canceled. Law enforcement officers were stationed at each district school for the remainder of the day as an added safety measure.
Sheriff Dave Daniel said the coordinated response was carried out with assistance from Oregon State Police and the Grants Pass Police Department.
Officials emphasized that student safety remains the top priority and thanked the community for its patience during the disruption.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication of any continuing threat to schools in the district. No additional information has been released.
