Roseburg, OR. — Umpqua Valley Tennis Center will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 9, inviting the community to explore its newly completed $2.53 million outdoor tennis and pickleball complex.
The free event will run from noon to 4 p.m. at 1201 N.W. Stewart Parkway, where residents can play on the renovated courts or enjoy a barbecue featuring hamburgers and hot dogs. A beer and wine garden will also be available during the celebration.
The upgraded facility includes eight tennis courts and 10 dedicated pickleball courts, along with new fencing, lighting, seating, an improved entryway, and a security system. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was previously held in March by the City of Roseburg and the nonprofit tennis center, which partnered on the project.
Funding for the overhaul came from a combination of public and private sources, including a $750,000 state grant secured by Roseburg Parks and Recreation, $523,000 in City funding, and $1.252 million raised by the tennis center from community donors, businesses, and foundations.
Project supporters say the courts have already seen strong use. According to UVTC President Eric Ball, the pickleball courts have been consistently busy, with activity extending into the evening hours under the new lighting system.
City Manager Nikki Messenger said the project represents an investment in local youth and a model for future park improvements, highlighting the role of community partnerships in bringing large-scale recreational projects to completion.
Adults will pay $2 to use the courts, while youth 18 and under can play for free. The facility also introduces a new month-to-month outdoor membership option for non-members. The courts are currently the only outdoor public tennis and pickleball facility in the Roseburg area.
