BEND, Ore. — The City of Bend and the Bend Police Department have begun issuing warnings to drivers caught speeding or running red lights at three busy intersections, marking the rollout of a new automated traffic enforcement program.
The 30-day warning period, which started today, is the first phase of the initiative aimed at reducing crashes and improving safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians throughout the community.
Traffic enforcement cameras are now active at the following locations:
- Southeast Reed Market Road and Third Street (westbound)
- Northeast Neff Road and 27th Street (southbound and westbound)
- U.S. Business 97 and Powers Road (northbound)
City officials said the intersections were selected based on a history of crashes and frequent community complaints.
During the warning period, the system will capture images and video of vehicles that fail to stop at red lights — including rolling through right turns — or exceed posted speed limits. Drivers identified by the system will receive warning notices by mail.
Starting May 15, the program will transition to full enforcement, and violations captured by the cameras will result in citations.
To help inform motorists, signs have been installed near each monitored intersection and along major entry points into the city, alerting drivers to the presence of automated enforcement.
Officials encourage residents to learn more about the program, including how violations are processed and how to respond to notices, by visiting the city’s official website.
